‘I gave you the task of getting my weight off and clearly, by looking at me in the mirror, you had your work cut out.

We set some clear goals firstly:

  • What should I eat?
  • How much to eat?
  • What I would like my goal weight to be?
  • Is it attainable?

With this in mind I think it was a bigger hurdle for you than me.  You set me a meal plan that was able to be abided by but at the same time gave me enough food that I wasn’t trying to eat the kitchen bench.  I also gave you another hurdle that I have lunch at a restaurant every day and thinking what will I eat here that would fit any “diet” yet you over came that for me – it was so simple.

I want to thank you for helping me achieve my goal weight for a race you know I have been training hard for. At the same time I have learnt how to eat properly which is really important which will be lifelong blessing. You gave me the correct balance with my meal plan I needed to firstly get back to full strength and what a bonus I dropped those 3kg I couldnt budge as well. My name is Catriona Rose, I’m 20 years old and I’m a competitive lightweight rower where weight management is an integral part of my sport. To be able to race, I must meet the weight requirements and weigh in 2hrs before every race. It is vital for me to be on top of my diet at every point during my season, especially coming into week long competitions such as the Australian National Championships.

I first met Sally at the Australian Nationals in 2009 where I had attempted to manage my weight on my own. This hadn’t worked quite well for me and my performance at the regatta was suffering as a result of the drastic measures I was taking to try and get down to competition weight, which is 57kg for females.  With Sally’s guidance I was able to immediately rectify the situation and managed to make weight with minimal stress for the rest of the racing week, and even won a gold medal and two bronze medals!

Since then, we have worked together to structure my dietary needs in such a way that I am able to support the intense training load throughout the season, but continue to manage my weight loss healthily. I have an incredibly sweet tooth and often have trouble cutting out my favourite treats, but with Sally I have been able to find substitute certain foods so that I don’t feel as though I’m missing out on the things I love.

Looking back on seasons where I have struggled to make weight by myself, I realise all my shortcomings had to do with nutrition. I always found it difficult to know what I should be consuming to be able to perform and train at my peak whilst easily making weight, and I have learnt many core principles and techniques that have helped me develop a healthy eating pattern to meet my requirements.

Without Sally’s aid I don’t believe I would have the knowledge of the pitfalls that I was making in order to lose weight and continue training at the level I am accustomed to.

I never feel as though I am on a diet anymore, I have developed a healthy eating pattern and I feel that I am a better athlete for the changes I have made with Sally’s help.

I have been seeing Sally for nearly 12 months and cannot speak highly enough of the high quality advice and programs I have received from Sally. I have struggled with my weight and obesity throughout the greater majority of my adult life. I first started working with Sally with a goal to complete an Ironman which had been a lifetime goal.

During that time we have worked together and developed a meal plan for day to day eating and a race plan which is effective and resulted in me being able to finally complete an Ironman. Having a race nutrition plan that I knew worked and had been tested meant that I had a lot less stress for the day and could just concentrate on actually finishing not worrying about whether I was getting the nutrition right.

The day to day eating plan provides me both the structure and flexibility to adapt and has resulted in me losing a significant amount of fat and now being in the healthy weight range (PS Sal – hopefully I am in the healthy weight range…..). The decision to see Sally was quite easy, especially as we decided to go to the first appointment together. Both of us participate in sport, cycling and triathlon and thought that as Sally was recommended due to her sporting background meant that there would be more than just weight loss with improvements in our sport as well.

Having tried for a number of years to lose weight, this program was different!
