Food and movement have always been central to Lara’s life. As a teenager, Lara balanced the grace of ballet and the challenge of cross country and long-distance running events. This diverse experience ignited a lifelong love for both artistic expression and endurance running, which she now pursues as an avid half-marathon and marathon runner. Competing in both disciplines, Lara discovered firsthand the power of food to fuel peak performance. However, her journey wasn’t solely as a competitor. Lara also worked as a cross-country and athletics coach, directly guiding young adolescent athletes. Witnessing the negative impact of restrictive eating cultures on these athletes fueled her passion for guiding individuals towards a balanced relationship with food, one that prioritises both nourishment and optimises performance. Lara is here to act as a supportive guide, empowering individuals, from high-performing athletes to those seeking overall well-being. Her mission is to equip them with evidence-based strategies to navigate food choices, achieve their personal nutrition goals, and cultivate a positive relationship with food.
Lara’s areas of passion lie in:
-
Sports and performance nutrition
-
Endurance and ultra-endurance
-
Adolescent and young adults
-
Improving relationships with food
-
Eating disorder management
Two things I can’t live without are:
My golden retriever, Martha, and a good pair of running shoes!
9am on a Sunday morning, and I am:
Going for a long run or cycle along the coastline! This is always followed by a yummy treat and a hot cup of coffee by the beach.
My favourite training session is:
A long cruisey run with a friend or a high-intensity sweaty gym session!
Tea or coffee:
Coffee always! Specifically, almond milk cappuccino (with extra chocolate on top)
My last meal would be:
A big roast lamb with roasted vegetables and delicious gravy to share with my family. Followed by my mum’s famous pavlova with fruit and cream of course!
One thing I wish everyone in the world could know about nutrition is:
Eating nutritiously doesn’t have to be time consuming, expensive or glamorous! There’s a massive misconception that eating well is all about aesthetic smoothie bowls and gourmet salads with organic produce… but that’s simply not true. You can eat nutritious and importantly, delicious food on a low budget and on a tight schedule. It may not always look as aesthetic as the meals that are splattered all over your social media feed, but that’s okay!
My nutrition philosophy:
Food is so much more than fuel and serves us in many ways. It’s easy to view food as a way to feed our bodies to function physically however, it’s so much more than that. Food doesn’t just nourish us physically, it can nourish us mentally, emotionally, culturally and even spiritually. Food can be used as a tool to optimise our performance, connect with our loved ones, express ourselves creatively, celebrate culture and tradition or simply bring us joy.
